@progste I'm not using any filters. I'm currently targeting file sizes of EMBER and Anime Time's releases. As for FFA, it's already pretty comparable in quality. I can still increase the quality with cpu-used while not impacting the filesize, but that will happen when I get more processing power. here's a comparison for some extremes: https://slow.pics/c/HvrDoImy yeah spend an hour with your face to the monitor and then realize it doesn't matter in motion.
Nice, I've wanted to try AV1 for a while. It plays fine with MPV, although I wonder if there are artifacts or it's just the art style and I didn't notice from the original source? Guess I'll try to compare it.
Edit: after comparing I'd say the lines are a bit more jagged compared to the original, are you maybe using a sharpening filter? Or maybe the CQ needs to be a bit higher? I'm not super familiar with AV1 but the ideal in my opinion would be to get a similar size to x265 while achieving a better quality, if it looks worse it's not worth it.
