Tokyo - Dieci anni dopo un terribile terremoto. Lo studente Igarashi Ganta trascorre le proprie, tranquille, giornate alla scuola media con i suoi compagni. Ma un giorno, con il manifestarsi dell’”Uomo Rosso”, il destino di Ganta muta per sempre. Nonostante la sua innocenza, sul ragazzo pesa una sentenza di morte, e viene rinchiuso nella prigione nota come “Dead Man Wonderland”. Ganta trascorre giornate spaventose in carcere, motivato alla vita solo dal bisogno di vendetta che nutre verso l’uomo rosso. E’ qui che incontra l’amica d’infanzia Shiro. In breve tempo, resosi conto dei poteri sovrannaturali di cui si trova in possesso, Ganta sarà coinvolto in battaglie all’ultimo sangue per la sopravvivenza… che ne sarà di lui?
